Aerospace to increase aircraft production capacity by five to six times

(MENAFN) Italy-based Piaggio Aerospace, recently acquired by Turkish unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) manufacturer Baykar, plans to sharply increase its aircraft production and expand maintenance and engine capabilities, the company’s chairman announced Monday.

Haluk Bayraktar, chairman of Piaggio Aerospace and Baykar’s general manager, highlighted the company’s 140-year history and its legacy in Italian aviation. “This is a very important legacy for Baykar. Combining our technologies with Piaggio offered a unique advantage and potential to bring together the strengths of Türkiye and Italy,” he said.

Piaggio currently operates two facilities: one for manufacturing the P180 light transport aircraft and another for engine parts production and maintenance. Bayraktar described the P180 as “the world's fastest turboprop aircraft” with a distinctive design, noting that production has been limited in recent years.

Baykar aims to revive operations, increasing output from the current four to five aircraft annually to 25–30 P180s per year. He emphasized that existing facilities, production setups, and supply chains are capable of supporting this expansion. “As Baykar, we are committed to new investments, new updates, and making this aircraft attractive again,” Bayraktar added.

He also expressed optimism about integrating Piaggio’s heritage, expertise, and brand with Baykar’s UAV innovations, describing the combined capabilities as a foundation for a “bright future” in both manned and unmanned aviation sectors.
